Rhinoplasty
The nose is a defining feature of the face and has a great impact on how we look. Some people are unhappy with the nose they were born with.
Others have sustained an injury that has caused undesirable changes in their nose. Genetics, injury and aging all contribute to the appearance and
function of your nose. RHINOPLASTY is the surgery to reshape the nose. Rhinoplasty can change the outer appearance of the nose or the inner structures
to improve function.
Rhinoplasty is used to shape a nose so that it will better harmonize with the other facial features. Removing a hump, shortening or raising the tip,
or straightening the nose can make it more aesthetically pleasing. A slight alteration in the size or shape of the nose can greatly alter one’s appearance.
If breathing is difficult, through one or both nostrils, the inner structures can be surgically altered to open the air passages.
Most of the incisions are made inside the nose where they will be unseen. In some cases, an incision is made in the area of skin that separates the nostrils.
The bone and cartilage structures are removed or sculpted to provide the new structure of the nose. The skin is then repositioned over this new structure and
the incisions are closed.
During the pre-surgical examination and consultation, Dr. Frank W. Shagets will explain the surgical technique that is indicated for your individual care,
discuss realistic expectations and answer your questions. The risks inherent to the procedure, the surgical facilities available, the type of anesthesia, and
the fees will be outlined. Surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons is not covered by insurance. Your insurance may reimburse for surgery done to
improve nasal function or for injury or major deformity.
