Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure which removes extra skin, muscle and fat from your upper or lower eyelids.
Each year over 100,000 men and women choose blepharoplasty to improve their appearance or vision. Droopy upper eyelids
can make you look older and can obstruct your field of vision. Puffiness and bags under they eyes can make you look tired.
Blepharoplasty corrects these problems, and can give you a refreshed appearance, with a more youthful appearing eye area.
In upper eyelid surgery, the incision line is in a natural fold. This placement keeps the scar as inconspicuous as possible.
In lower eyelid surgery, the incision line is either immediately below the lash line or inside the eyelid. After the incision is made,
the excess fat and muscle are removed. If necessary, the skin is trimmed and the wounds are closed. Lasers may be used to tighten the
lower eyelid skin.
During the pre-surgical consultation and examination, Dr. Frank W. Shagets will listen to your concerns, explain the surgical technique
that is indicated for your individual care, discuss realistic expectations and answer your questions. The risks inherent to the procedure,
the surgical facilities available, the type of anesthesia, and the fees will be outlined.
Surgery that is done purely for cosmetic reasons is not covered by insurance. Your insurance may reimburse for surgery done to improve
your field of vision or correct and eye deformity.
